Balsa Wood Serveware

Balsa Wood Serveware

Oven Safe to 240°C Responsibly Sourced Home Compostable Never Microwave

Balsa is the lightest commercial hardwood there is, and that single property is why this range exists. It can be shaped thin enough to look deliberate rather than disposable, and still hold a fully loaded grazing board without flexing.

The pale, even grain photographs beautifully, which matters, because almost everything in this range ends up in a photograph. A canape on a balsa topper, a sushi boat on a dark counter, a grazing table shot from above: the wood becomes part of the plating rather than something the food sits on.

All of it is FSC and completely untreated, no varnish, no lacquer, no plastic coating. Nothing can leach into hot food, and the whole piece composts rather than leaving a coated shell behind. Oven safe to 240°C, freezer safe to −40°C, and never microwave.

Serving trays and platters for grazing boards, canapés and charcuterie, the format most caterers order first, because a loaded balsa platter carried through a room does more for a brand than any printed napkin.

Bake in it, sell in it

The baking moulds are the unusual line. Oven safe to 240°C means a loaf, a panettone or a cake bakes directly in the mould and goes onto the shelf in the same mould.

The product is never handled between coming out of the oven and being sold. That saves labour, reduces breakage on delicate bakes, and removes a hygiene step entirely. And because the pale grain looks intentional, it reads as part of the product rather than packaging around it.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is balsa wood safe for food?

Yes. Our balsa is untreated, uncoated and food-contact compliant, nothing is applied to it, which is exactly why it looks and smells like wood rather than like a finish.

Can it go in the oven?

Yes, to 240°C / 464°F, which is what makes it useful for baking moulds. Never in a microwave, wood in a microwave is a fire risk, and that applies to every wooden product, not just ours.

Will it leak with a wet filling?

Balsa is porous, so anything genuinely wet needs a liner or a paper case. For dry and semi-dry, bakes, canapés, charcuterie, gifting, it holds well.

Is it reusable?

It is single-use by design, though customers do wash and reuse the trays for dry service. It composts at home once you are finished with it.

Why is it more expensive than paper?

Because it is milled wood rather than pressed pulp, and it is chosen for how it looks on a table. If presentation is not the point, bagasse or board will cost you less and do the job.

Can you print our brand on it?

Yes, branding on the sleeve or the packaging rather than the wood itself, which we would not want to coat.

Hosting? There is a pack for that.

Everything for 25 to 150 guests in one box, and in our Premium packs the bin liner composts too, so there is nothing to sort afterwards.
