Where the film actually goes

Polyethylene film, carry bags and bin liners, is recyclable, but almost never through kerbside collection. Soft film wraps around the sorting machinery at recycling facilities and jams it, which is why most councils exclude it.

It goes to store drop-off collection instead: the bins at the entrance of most large supermarkets. Clean and dry film only. We say this plainly on every HDPE and LDPE page because telling a customer something is recyclable, without telling them where, is how contaminated recycling streams happen.
