The Story
Nature does the hard part
The areca (betel) palm naturally sheds its leaf sheaths several times a year. For generations these fell to the forest floor and were left to decompose. We gather them — no tree is felled, no plantation cleared.
Each sheath is a single, solid piece of leaf: naturally rigid, water-resistant and food-safe by design. That's why areca tableware needs no plastic lining, no wax and no chemical coating to perform — the leaf already does it.
Gathering and crafting areca also creates rural livelihoods, much of it women-led — turning a forest by-product into dignified work.
How It's Made
From fallen leaf to export-grade plate
A careful multi-step process — water, pressure and heat, no chemicals — built for food safety and long shelf life.
1
Naturally shed leaves are gathered from farms and brought to our centralized plant by rural micro-entrepreneurs.
2
Sun-dried to remove residual moisture (preventing fungus), then stored dry, cool, ventilated and temperature-controlled.
3
Soaked in filtered, potable water and rinsed free of all dust, mud and loose particles.
4
Each sheath is individually cleaned with high-pressure water jets to lift trapped dust from the grain.
5
Pressed in heated moulds at die temperatures up to 360°C — no bacteria or microorganisms survive.
6
Cleaned again, then die-cut and edge-trimmed for smooth, cut-free edges.
7
Vacuum- or shrink-wrap sealed with silica-gel pouches for moisture control.
8
Labeled and packed in cartons to export-grade standards — ready to ship worldwide.
