No backyard? No problem. Apartment composting is easier than you think.
You don't need a garden

Composting indoors is very doable. A small counter caddy, a bokashi bin, or a countertop electric composter handles food scraps and many of our plant-based products without smell or fuss.
What you can compost

Fruit and veg scraps, coffee grounds, and EarthCleanse plant-based items break down well. Palm-leaf and bagasse products compost at home in weeks; uncoated kraft too. CPLA needs a commercial composter, so keep that for drop-off.
Yes: fruit/veg scraps, coffee, palm-leaf and bagasse items, uncoated kraft.
Commercial only: CPLA cutlery and straws.
No: meat, dairy, oily food (in most home systems).
Where it goes next
Use the finished compost on houseplants or a balcony garden, or hand it to a community garden. No program nearby? Search FindAComposter.com for drop-off points.
The honest fallback
If composting truly isn't possible yet, our leaf and wood products still break down far faster than plastic even in general waste — and recyclable items should be rinsed and recycled. Do what your situation allows; it still beats plastic to landfill.
